MOST COVID-19 POLICY

MOST Friends:

We are in very difficult times with the COVID-19 crisis. NYS deemed outpatient Physical Therapy as an “essential” service and we will continue to be serving our patients if we can reasonably assure it is safe to come to PT for patients and staff. With this quickly changing environment we have implemented new policies outlined below. Please understand that these policies are designed to protect anyone entering the office. We will be diligent in protecting you but there is no guarantee you will not be exposed. I also ask you from the bottom of my heart to NOT come to PT if you have any symptoms that might be related to COVID-19. Thank you for your cooperation.

 

I Maximize social distancing

1 We are going to split shifts to reduce general human interaction

2 We are placing patients in private rooms when possible

3 We are spacing treatment tables, so no patients are ever next to one another

4 MOST is keeping patients at least 8 feet apart when using any equipment

5 Office staff will work in separate rooms as much as possible

a) I want to significantly reduce the contact between office and clinical staff so use the phone to call front and back office in MB

b) In RB & HW talk to the front desk person through the glass vs behind the wall

6 Allowing those who can work from home to do so

7 Some of the chairs have been removed from the waiting rooms

8 No visitors allowed in the treatment rooms/gym unless there is an extenuating circumstance

9 We are reducing the interaction between the front desk staff and patients

a) Getting credit cards on file

b) Creating a barrier between patients and front desk staff

c) Scheduling patients out for appointments as far as reasonable

10 Spread out the clinician’s chairs and work spaces in all offices

 

II Personal Protection

1 Office staff will wear gloves

2 Clinical staff have the option of wearing gloves

3 Masks are available for clinical staff (rationing to 1 per week) to use as they deem appropriate

4 Masks are available upon request for patients

 

III Screening Program

1 A new pre-treatment screening program has been implemented (before each visit)

a) Patient will wash hands

b) Patient will complete screening form

c) Patient will have temperature taken

If they have no serious flags on the screening form & their temperature is<100 they will be treated. If there are red flags on the screening form or the temperature is >99.9 they will not be treated that day.

2 All staff will have their temperature taken prior to their shift (if>99.9 they must go home)

 

IV Disinfection strategy

1 All clinicians will thoroughly wash hands before and after each patient visit

2 All staff will wash hands before and after work shifts and before and after eating and the bathroom

3 Each table will be thoroughly wiped down with disinfectant immediately after each use

4 Each modality will be thoroughly wiped after each use

5 Every piece of equipment used will be wiped upon completion of the exercise

a) Including but not limited to all measuring devices, cardio, balls, weights etc.

b) Hand table and accessories

c) Doorknobs to the room

 

V Defining essential patients (Note the criteria for what is deemed essential is different from PT to PT (PTAs consult with case PT)

1 ID high risk patients as defined by CDC

a) Make patient aware of the risk and determine the risk/reward

b) Decide if they could do telehealth

2) ID patients where coming to the office is not essential

a) Make them aware of telehealth

b) Assist with their decision to continue or use telehealth option
